Brinker Capital Targets Retirees With New Balanced Income Strategy

Brinker Capital today significantly expanded its popular Destinations mutual fund program through the introduction of a new Balanced Income Strategy designed for retirees seeking income-producing investments in their portfolios. The Balanced Income Strategy is intended to deliver a high level of current income generated from a portfolio that invests approximately 60 percent in dividend-paying equities and 40 percent in fixed-income securities.

The Balanced Income Strategy is targeted to moderate investors who desire a high level of income from their portfolio, as well as inflation protection arising from a mix of equities and fixed-income securities.

Brinker Capital president, John Coyne said: « The addition of the Balanced Income Strategy to Brinker Capital’s Destinations program is designed particularly for older investors, including the 76 million baby boomers who will reach age 65 over the next 10 years. The investment strategy seeks to provide income to these investors, while at the same time, staying ahead of inflation. The Destinations program is a high-quality, full-service program for financial advisors that provides complete asset allocation, fund selection and ongoing due diligence. We’re pleased to add this new strategy to the program to further diversify its options for investors. »

The portfolio’s allocation will generally be equities, while maintaining a substantial commitment to fixed income securities. The equity allocation will adopt a value-style, dividend-producing approach with an emphasis on large-cap securities and including smaller allocations to mid- and small-cap securities. Modest commitments to international equities and real estate will generally be maintained. The fixed-income allocation will be divided into various fixed income sub-classes and will generally have a high current income bias. Sub- classes that may be used include: government bonds, investment grade corporate bonds, high-yield bonds, convertibles, and international debt.

Melvin Cooper, a certified financial planner and registered investment advisor for Cooper Financial Services, Inc. located in Hamden, Connecticut, added: « This strategy is a natural in today’s economic environment. With increased market volatility, the climatic changes resulting from 9/11, an aging population and need for retirement income stability with an inflation hedge, the Balanced Income Strategy fills a tremendous current need. » Mr. Cooper was a catalyst in articulating to Brinker Capital the need to develop the Balanced Income Strategy and was one of the first advisory firms to incorporate this strategy into its practice.

In addition to the new Balanced Income Strategy, the other investment strategies within Brinker Capital’s Destinations fund-of-funds program include: Capital Preservation-Taxable, Capital Preservation-Qualified, Capital Income & Growth-Taxable, Capital Income & Growth-Qualified, Capital Growth & Income-Taxable, Capital Growth & Income, Qualified, Capital Growth-Taxable, Capital Growth-Qualified, Aggressive Capital Growth-Taxable, Aggressive Capital Growth-Qualified and Aggressive Equity Capital Growth.
